    something interesting

Sometimes, I fail to write because I fear that I will have nothing so say.  It's been such a long time since I've posted, journaled, or even written a song or a story: I miss writing.

I'm not about to share anything new or profound, but there's a lot going on inside my head. So maybe I will share something new.  I wonder what I'll write next.

    Swell Season
I went to an amazingly beautiful show a couple nights ago.  Glen Hansard and his otra persona (other half) Marketa Irglova sang songs that stirred up the insides of my heart.  I know, pretty hard to do.  They sang many of the songs from their movie Once, but shared a few new songs from Swell Season (I guess it's the name of the new duet) and a couple Irish lullaby-like tunes.  Although there was no perscussion, there was his guitar (with a great Willie Nelson-like hole where a pickguard used to be), piano, bass guitar, cello, and violin--beautiful.
Glen Hansard sings from his heart and it comes out in his voice, his face, and the way he plays his guitar.

I wish you were there, and if you were--don't you feel lucky?

  • I just remembered a conversation that I had with a friend in Hawaii.  It was the summer of 2003, and I was on my first short-term mission trip in Hawaii.  My friend Alex asked me if I would ever come back on a mission trip as a staff person.  I immediately said no.  I turned my nose up so quickly: I was so sure that I would be right.  Now here I am: a missionary.  God has a great sense of humor.  He does know me best.

  • I was sitting with a friend a couple nights ago at BJ's Pizza, when we started talking about our jobs.  "I love my job" I told him.
    You love your job?
    Yes, I love my job.
You see, I hear people say that, and I want that.  I want to love my job, but I don't love my job.
    He laughs.

I am truly blessed in this season of my life.  Surely God pours out His blessings like its His job, but I cannot ignore Him.  There is no mistaking it: I love my job.
